Songs about justice.

As I get ready to give this essay about justice a final finishing push this weekend, I sat down at my piano today and decided to sing some of the challenges that are in my heart when I think about what I’m writing.

If I ever get the YouTube channel up and running, I’ll put the recording up too. For now, here are the working-lyrics…

A song about justice

When You see the pain in this world,

What do You see?

Because my blinded eyes sometimes forget that it’s real.

But You look with the eyes of a Father,

And You cry the tears of grace.

And You say, ‘Daughter go where I would go,

And walk in my steps.

Daughter, go where I would go

And walk in my steps.’

When You meet broken people,

What do You say?

Because my hardened heart often looks the other way.

But You speak with the words of a Healer,

And You bind up their wounds.

And You say, ‘Daughter speak the words of love,

That bring my balm to the bruise.

Daughter speak the words of love,

That bring my balm to the bruise.’

You’re the Beautiful God.

Bringing mercy and meekness.

You’re the Beautiful God.

Bringing Your strength from our weakness.

You’re the Beautiful God.

And so gently You teach us.

That we become like You when we walk in Your steps.

That we become like You when we walk in Your steps.

When You see poverty Jesus,

What do You do?

Because the wealth I cling to can just cover up the truth.

But You dwell with the poor and lowly,

And restore them again.

And You say, ‘Daughter, give up everything,

To bring peace to their pain.

Daughter give up everything,

To bring peace to their pain.’

When You look deep into my heart,
What do You see?
Because my love feels so weak, but my failure so real.
But You see with the eyes of a Lover,
And You call me Your friend,
And You say, ‘Daughter, I am moved by you,
Again and again.
Daughter I am moved by You,
Again and again.’
