We took communion today focussing our hearts on the results of the cross.
The results of the cross are exciting.
They just change everything.
His life means we can live.
And in the quietness of His Presence, the testimony of His people and the prayers of His church, there was a drawing in and a focus.
So our pastor then moved us to thinking about another Old Testament name.
It’s different from a lot of the other names that just appear once or twice in the Bible.
Because the name Jehovah appears over 6,500 times in the Old Testament.
Something in this name.
The word Jehovah means Lord. The word Yahweh means Lord.
Who is Jehovah?
He is Lord.
He is God.
He is the Lord of gods.
Far higher than any others.
He who makes everything else fade into insignificance.
He is Jesus.
The King of kings.
He has the authority over everything, eternally reigning as God.
The God that we serve is unsearchable in eternal greatness.
The Lord God Almighty.
The heavens cannot contain Him
He overspills heaven and floods eternity.
Even in the vastness of space, heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool.
He is the Lord mighty in battle.
He has won every battle in a powerful and awesome way.
The results of the cross.
He has defeated the powers of darkness and reigns victorious.
Sovereign in every detail.
When everything is shaken, the Lord God Almighty reigns. Always.
This is our God.
This is Jehovah.
In the Old Testament the nations around Israel had heard about Jehovah.
They feared Him.
He has an effect on the nations of the world.
If you have truly glimpsed this God, then your life will never be the same again.
If you glimpse something of Jehovah, then the fear of the Lord comes upon you.
He changes you.
Where is Jehovah?
What is the sphere in which He operates?
Everything there is comes under His Lordship, except for one thing.
The whole of the heavens are His.
Time comes under His Lordship.
He is Lord of the animal kingdom. He shuts the mouths of lions and makes the donkey talk.
He is Lord of death. He called forth Lazarus.
He is Lord over darkness. The light of the world.
He is Lord over demons.
He is Lord over the principalities and powers.
He is Lord over the devil. Crushing him at the cross.
He is Lord over the storms of our lives. He speaks to the circumstance.
Everything comes under His Lordship.
Everything but one thing.
He is only Lord in our lives by invitation.
He is automatically Lord over everything in the cosmos, except for our lives.
He wants to be Lord.
But we have to invite Him in.
To be Lord over any other gods.
He wants to be Lord of our experiences.
He wants to be in the driving seat.
Lord of all that we are.
When does Jehovah move?
When does this Lord operate?
He does not die, He does not grow weary.
In every generation and every millennium, He is Lord.
He is the I AM.
He is the ever present God.
In every age, for every person, in every nation.
Jesus says it..
I am the bread of life.
I am the light of the world.
I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
I am the door.
I am the way, the truth and the life.
This is where God is bringing us to.
Whoever believes with his heart and confesses with his mouth that Jesus is Lord will be saved.
Romans 10 v 9.
Confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Over the difficulties.
Over the need.
Over the situations.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
Because if He is Lord, He is Lord over all things and He meets us in it.
To the glory of God the Father.
It’s about the Lordship of Jesus.
I’ve just continued a weekly study that I’m doing through the book of Hebrews, and chapter 7 continued to focus my mind of this theme.
Jesus, our high priest.
He who lives and intercedes for us, and cheers us on, and stands to make a way.
He is my first love.
